DESCRIPTION:The Pantry is open to all households/residents of EH23\, anyone who lives in this Post Code area can apply to become members of the Pantry and ‘shop’ there once a week. Membership is limited to 1 person per household. Membership is free\, and weekly ‘shop’ costs £3.50 which is put back into buying stock into the Pantry the following week. Each member receives 10 credits for £3.50\, and these credits can be used to ‘spend’ on fresh\, ambient or store-cupboard ingredients. If available\, free bread will be offered\, and volunteers will make each member a bag of fresh fruit and veggies. \nThe Pantry is open to EVERYONE who lives in EH23. Pop along to the Beacon 3 until 5 on a Tuesday and we will sign you up and you can do your shop.

DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome Alzheimer’s Scotland and VOCAL Midlothian to the Beacon to deliver Dementia Friends Training and Think Carer Training. 6:30 – 9PM on the 15th January 2026. You can sign up below to attend. But first … \nWhat is Dementia Friends Training? \nDementia Friends Scotland is an Alzheimer Scotland initiative to raise awareness of dementia and reduce stigma. With the right support and understanding\, people can live well with dementia and contribute to their local community. By taking part in Dementia Friends Scotland\, you can learn a little about what it’s like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action. Dementia Friends help people living with dementia in lots of ways\, both big and small. From being more patient in a shop queue\, to helping someone find the right bus\, every action counts. Dementia Friends Scotland allows you to gain a better understanding of dementia and the things you can do to help people living with dementia be a valued part of their local community. \nWhat is Think Carer Training? \nMany individuals see what they do as simply being a partner\, parent\, child\, sibling\, or friend\, not as “caring.” Because of this\, a large number of unpaid carers remain unidentified and unsupported. You may be an unpaid carer\, or someone else you know\, sadly many unpaid carers only recognise their role after they are already struggling. Increasing awareness and early identification are essential to ensure carers receive appropriate support. Think Carer training will help us identify unpaid carers\, understand who they are and the impact (physical\, emotional and financial) it can have. It will cover the impact that caring has on a persons health and wellbeing and the importance of offering appropriate support. \nThe evening will cover both training/awareness sessions with a break between. The Elves will show you to your table so you can tuck into your breakfast as Santa makes his way round to talk with your little ones. \nBefore things wrap up\, each child will receive a present and have the chance for a photo with Santa to share with your loved ones. \nBreakfast of pancakes and toppings is included\, as well as tea\, filter coffee and juice. Toppings include fresh fruit\, raspberry coulis\, cream and chocolate. Adult? You can choose from a bacon\, egg\, haggis roll. \nN.B. No refunds available\, but you can transfer your tickets to another name. Babies are free\, we don’t assume they will be tucking into pancakes!
