SUMMARY:Puppacino Pop Up Cafe
DESCRIPTION:An opportunity in a real life environment for you and your puppy to learn the practical skills your dog needs to become an abassadog in their own community. \nOr\, you want to be able to take a calm dog into a public space\, like a cafe. \nWe asked on Facebook ‘Interest or not? We have been asked if we could host a ‘Puppy Cafe Training Classy Type Thing’. Which basically is a room full of puppies and young dogs\, with their owners\, learning how to be out in public places. Does this make sense? There have been a few ‘oh\, that would be good’ replies\, but is there interest? What say you?’ and the response was an overwhelming yes! \nSo we got in touch with Tynewater Dog Training\, we met with them and within 2 hours they came up with a plan to make it happen. Puppacino Pop Up Cafe is a 2 hour session spread over two evenings (26th May and 2nd June) 6 – 7pm here at the Beacon. The maximum number is 12\, and each puppy can have two humans with he/she. Fo social distancing we will split up 4 dogs and owners (max 2) with one trainer. \nThe cost for both sessions is £10\, and the cafe will be open for drinks/cakes so that we can make it as real as possible. Your £10 will cover the cost of hire at the Beacon. \nThings Tynewater Trainers will cover/help with: \n\nSettling\nLeaving Food\nIgnoring other dos\nIgnoring other people\nSelf control\nFocus on my family\nPuppy manners in the moment\n\nBy booking you agree to your details being shared with Tynewater Dog Training; they will be sending you a pre-session email or two. \nTo book\, please click here.

DESCRIPTION:For many the word ‘heritage’ suggests castles\, museums\, and historic buildings – and Gorebridge has a few – but it’s more than that\, heritage offers a place of belonging.  \nIt doesn’t matter if you have lived in Gorebridge all your life\, or just a few months all around you is heritage: from the Nancy Teach Path down to Gore Glen\, from the walks past Gunpowder Mills\, the names of streets\, the annual Gala day\, it all tells a story of a Gorebridge past that means something today. \nAnd then there are the memories\, as together people try and work out the story. Heritage – what has gone before us – has helped shaped the community in where we live now\, and it’s something we should all have access to\, to be part of the story that will be told. We all should be included in the history in order to appreciate the current place where we belong. Gorebridge Stories – Celebrating Our Heritage is about bringing people together\, saving stories and traditions\, and building up pride in where we live\, work and play.  \nCome along – to your own house – and share your stories and listen to others. DESCRIPTION:Taking in Vogrie House then Borthwick and Crighton Castles\, this 10-mile walk will take in breath-taking scenery of our countryside. Bring a camera as it’s beautiful this time of year. Meet 10: 00 AM at the Beacon. \nTo Book: http://gorebridge.org.uk/walking19/ \nThings you need to know about this walk: \nWalkers will start and finish at The Beacon. Please try and be there 15 minutes before your start time. Both walks will have walk leaders who will show you the way. Walkers are responsible for their own safety and should take care accordingly. We will be crossing roads and walkers should obey the Highway Code and only cross when it is safe to do so. All under 16 year olds must be under the close supervision and control of a parent/guardian as leaders are not responsible for the safety of children. \nThese wonderful countryside walks are approximately 10 miles long and include open meadows\, woods\, quiet lanes and riverside. You will be walking in grass\, on some steep muddy paths\, through undergrowth and overhanging branches and there are some steep steps\, stiles and fences to negotiate. At times the path is very close to open water and great care is needed. These walks are only suitable for walkers with stout walking boots and appropriate clothing for the weather. They will take between 5 – 6 hours and you will need to bring plenty of refreshments for the day. There are places along the route where you can leave if you find the walk more challenging than expected – please tell the walk leader if you leave. \n

DESCRIPTION:Email jaimie.macdonald@gorebridge.org.uk to BOOK your place \nParents and Children can join us for an after school session of making upcycled projects from textiles\, revamping old clothes\, making new things from fabric and experimenting with decoration and repair techniques. \nSessions will mostly be suitable for children aged 7 upwards. Sessions must be booked in advance as space is limited. \nAn adult is expected to stay in the session to create alongside the child\, offering assistance\, support and encouragement where needed. \nSome of the activities we could explore during our sessions (specific activities will be announced the beginning of that week) : \n\nT-shirt refashion\nHow to make T-shirt yarn\nWeave/braid a table mat or rug\nMake a dog toy\nBike streamers\nT-shirt shopping bags\nUpcycled junk jewellery\nSimple fabric printing/painting\nMake your own headband or hair clip\nPillow case dresses\nMake a simple cushion/ cushion cover\nSimple hand embroidery\nSimple hand applique/patching\n\nIf you have any ideas on what you’d like to re-make or upcycle with your child\, please let us know. \nThis workshop is funded by Scottish Government Climate Challenge Fund.
