You can sign up below to attend. But first … \nWhat is Dementia Friends Training? \nDementia Friends Scotland is an Alzheimer Scotland initiative to raise awareness of dementia and reduce stigma. With the right support and understanding\, people can live well with dementia and contribute to their local community. By taking part in Dementia Friends Scotland\, you can learn a little about what it’s like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action. Dementia Friends help people living with dementia in lots of ways\, both big and small. From being more patient in a shop queue\, to helping someone find the right bus\, every action counts. Dementia Friends Scotland allows you to gain a better understanding of dementia and the things you can do to help people living with dementia be a valued part of their local community. \nWhat is Think Carer Training? \nMany individuals see what they do as simply being a partner\, parent\, child\, sibling\, or friend\, not as “caring.” Because of this\, a large number of unpaid carers remain unidentified and unsupported. You may be an unpaid carer\, or someone else you know\, sadly many unpaid carers only recognise their role after they are already struggling. Increasing awareness and early identification are essential to ensure carers receive appropriate support. Think Carer training will help us identify unpaid carers\, understand who they are and the impact (physical\, emotional and financial) it can have. DESCRIPTION:We hope you can join us at the Gorebridge Beacon on Saturday the 5th of November (1.30 – 5PM) as we delve into the heritage of Gorebridge with an afternoon of soup\, stories and song. We will also lay out for you the Gorebridge Archives. \nAs part of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival* we will be joined by a Storyteller who will be telling the tales of Camp Meg\, Annie Swan\, the riot at Gorebridge Police Station\, the fatal explosion at Gorebridge Gunpowder Works and the life of the Pit Pony. \nYou can take part in the Daunder Walk where you will learn about Nancy Teuch (yes\, that path)\, the Emily Pit and Baths\, the North and South Bings and Laundry Cottages – where you will learn about the most recent find in Gorebridge. \nAt the heart of the day is the sharing of stories\, welcoming people\, and kindness. You will have lots of time to talk together at our Fable Table where you can reminisce with others throughout the afternoon. \nSo\, what’s your story? What do you want to share?
