DESCRIPTION:We aren’t sure if Play Cafe’s are for the children playing or the adults attending getting some much needed connection\, conversation and support. 2020 and the start of 2021 pretty much kissed goodbye to all of it. In April 2020 we had hoped to have a wheel in/wheel out small soft play area at the Beacon thanks to funding from Midlothian Council Small Grants\, but Covid pretty much stopped that in it’s tracks too. \nBut. Here we are. Who knows what will happen next. Every Monday in June 2021 (12 – 1) we are happy to announce that due to a very generous donation of toys we can kick-start a small play cafe in the Beacon. It’s a taster\, a trial and if successful we will carry it forward. \nWhat’s a Play Café?  \nWell\, there are many versions. At the Beacon we will use the whole hall and have a safe space for play and an area for café: come and take a seat\, get a cuppa\, relax\, connect\, get some much needed airing time. \nDo you need to book?  \nYes\, it’s £3 per child. You can do that below. \nBy booking you are agreeing:  \nYou are responsible for your child(ren) while attending. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Puppacino Pop Up Cafe
DESCRIPTION:An opportunity in a real life environment for you and your puppy to learn the practical skills your dog needs to become an abassadog in their own community. \nOr\, you want to be able to take a calm dog into a public space\, like a cafe. \nWe asked on Facebook ‘Interest or not? We have been asked if we could host a ‘Puppy Cafe Training Classy Type Thing’. Which basically is a room full of puppies and young dogs\, with their owners\, learning how to be out in public places. Does this make sense? There have been a few ‘oh\, that would be good’ replies\, but is there interest? What say you?’ and the response was an overwhelming yes! \nSo we got in touch with Tynewater Dog Training\, we met with them and within 2 hours they came up with a plan to make it happen. Puppacino Pop Up Cafe is a 2 hour session spread over two evenings (26th May and 2nd June) 6 – 7pm here at the Beacon. The maximum number is 12\, and each puppy can have two humans with he/she. Fo social distancing we will split up 4 dogs and owners (max 2) with one trainer. \nThe cost for both sessions is £10\, and the cafe will be open for drinks/cakes so that we can make it as real as possible. DESCRIPTION:Our Baby Bees classes give your little one a full sensory experience. All our classes focus around the singing voice\, a lot of which is unaccompanied. Unaccompanied singing gives the child a focus with little other distraction\, starting their journey listening to pitch. \nWe also play a range of percussion instruments to our babies in these classes – some are played by the teachers\, giving them a sensory experience through sound and sight. DESCRIPTION:A walk-through Gore Glen from the Beacon to Temple and back again. Meet 10: 00 AM at the Beacon\, Hunterfield Road\, Gorebridge EH23 4TT \nTo Book: http://gorebridge.org.uk/walking19/ \nThings you need to know about this walk: \nWalkers will start and finish at The Beacon. Please try and be there 15 minutes before your start time. Both walks will have walk leaders who will show you the way. Walkers are responsible for their own safety and should take care accordingly. We will be crossing roads and walkers should obey the Highway Code and only cross when it is safe to do so. All under 16 year olds must be under the close supervision and control of a parent/guardian as leaders are not responsible for the safety of children. \nThese wonderful countryside walks are approximately 10 miles long and include open meadows\, woods\, quiet lanes and riverside. You will be walking in grass\, on some steep muddy paths\, through undergrowth and overhanging branches and there are some steep steps\, stiles and fences to negotiate. At times the path is very close to open water and great care is needed. These walks are only suitable for walkers with stout walking boots and appropriate clothing for the weather. They will take between 5 – 6 hours and you will need to bring plenty of refreshments for the day. There are places along the route where you can leave if you find the walk more challenging than expected – please tell the walk leader if you leave.
