The Samba Drumming workshops will take you on an exciting musical journey, introducing you to the basics of brass playing and drumming, and allowing you to explore your creativity.

Delivered by Mat Clements once a month (Oct to Dec). The workshop is carefully designed to be inclusive, fun and hands-on, combining expert instruction in instrumental technique with song & movement, as well as a broader overview of world music cultures.
No musical or instrument experience necessary.
Learn together to share the success of creating a band from scratch.
You will then have the opportunity to deliver your new Samba Drumming skills LIVE on the 6th of December at the Gorebridge Christmas Lights switch on.
When
You will participate in three workshops, with a performance at the end. The workshop dates are Oct 17th (12 - 4PM), 14th Nov (12 - 4PM), 6th Dec (2 - 6PM, including performance.

Workshop Tutor Mat Clements
Since 1998, Where's the One?(opens in new tab) founder Mat Clements has drummed his way around hundreds of school, youth and community music projects across Scotland and beyond. He is a performer and educator working mostly with world percussion - everything from Brazilian samba to African grooves, drum and bass to ceilidh-inspired Scottish jigs. He is a specialist in unusual percussion instruments such as the berimbau, pandeiro, udu, atabaque, timbales and cajon. Mat has performed in most towns and major festivals in the UK, and taken his drumming skills across Europe, the US, China, India and Australia.
Mat creates a variety of music education workshops either as taster sessions, extended programmes or courses specially designed for a particular group.
He focuses on releasing creativity through group drumming using a variety of percussion instruments, teamwork and song. Mat can help you with a wide range of rhythm-based projects:
