Lights, Camera, Action!
Ever fancied making a film but never quite known where to start?
Join us for an 8-week filmmaking workshop where you’ll learn the skills, build your confidence and, most importantly, have a brilliant time making something together.
You’ll explore the world of filmmaking from the ground up — developing ideas, writing, acting, filming, directing and learning how to bring a story to life on screen. No previous experience is needed. Just bring your ideas, your curiosity and a willingness to give it a go.
Over the eight weeks, the group will work together to create a mockumentary — a fictional documentary full of characters, stories and plenty of opportunities for things to go hilariously wrong.
Whether you secretly fancy yourself as the next great director, want to try something completely different, or simply want to meet people and build your confidence, this is your chance to get involved.
Learn new skills. Try something new. Find your voice. Make a film.
And who knows? You might just discover you’re a natural in front of — or behind — the camera.
You will then have the opportunity to showcase your work on the 4th and 5th of December at the Beacon Christmas Cabaret Show.

The 8 week workshop starts on Saturday October 3rd 1:30 - 3:30PM at the Gorebridge Beacon.
Who
The 8 week workshop is free to attend (funded through Inspiring Scotland), priority places will be given to residents of EH23.

Who: Come and join Alan Somerville a Midlothian based Videographer and Photographer with a passion for turning ideas into meaningful, well-crafted work. Alan works across film, digital content, and storytelling-led projects, collaborating with individuals, brands, and organisations to bring clarity, emotion, and purpose to every production. With hands-on experience from concept through to final delivery, Alan’s approach is practical, collaborative, and rooted in real-world creative practice. This workshop will focus on demystifying the creative process, building confidence, and helping you develop ideas that are both authentic and effective — whether you're working with film, content, or storytelling in a broader sense.
