The increased interest in Newbyres Castle since the beginning of the Adopt a Monument scheme in 2014 has led to many talented and skilled volunteers getting involved. Included is local volunteer and surveyor Neil Simpson who has put his professional expertise to use in surveying the site.
Below is an idea of how these results can be put to practical use, to recreate the castle and its surroundings virtually. Leading to the possibility of accurately modelling the castle as it was before its demolition in 1964.
The model allows us to assess the importance of the sites location as a scene of defence as well ass the layout of the structure. More than that, it clearly shows the mound of subterranean materials just to the North of the castle remains.
