One of the requests we have had was to spruce up the pergola in the garden so it is a welcoming and relaxing place for the residents to enjoy on a warm and sunny day. Obviously, it will be a wee while before we see some less inclement weather! However, that did not stop us from making a start. Four unused planters were moved into place at each corner of the pergola. These were then sanded down and repainted. The colours chosen to reflect the flowers that would grow in the planters and the surrounding rose buses. Clippings of lavender, rosemary and honeysuckle were taken and put into each planter. Hopefully these will take root and the honeysuckle will grow up and around the framework providing some wonderful scents. In time, we plan to add some other sensory features such as wind chimes and other decorative features which we hope to make with the residents themselves in a Winter workshop.
It is a wonderful project to be involved with and we hope that by the time the seasons come around to Summer again, there will be a beautiful and relaxing spot to be enjoyed by all at Newbyres Village and their visitors.
