We were thrilled to have so many families turn up for our first family summer picnic at the beginning of the month!
14 families enjoyed a walk in the sunshine to Birkinside Park- via a field full of cows!- where they were met with a delicious spread of fruit, veggies, dips, sandwiches, popcorn and a sweet (yet wholesome!) treat.
After we filled our bellies, Lorna showed us how to make newspaper plant pots, filling them will soil and seeds.
We can’t wait to see what grows! Did you plant a seed? Has anything appeared yet?
On our second picnic, Jaimie taught us how to create a shopping bag from an old t-shirt just by using a pair of scissors. Some kids used their imaginations and found a second use for their new shopping bag, and a third use for the old t-shirt as a superhero cape!
We had a few wee eco superheroes flying about the park! How cute!
We also learnt how to make our own bubble blower from a used plastic bottle. Both sessions were a big hit with all age groups.
There are still plenty of places available for the rest of our picnics and the weather is looking good for our picnic tomorrow afternoon where we will be exploring the wonders of pollinators with our craft activities.
