What is Dementia Friends Training?
Dementia Friends Scotland is an Alzheimer Scotland initiative to raise awareness of dementia and reduce stigma. With the right support and understanding, people can live well with dementia and contribute to their local community. By taking part in Dementia Friends Scotland, you can learn a little about what it’s like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action. Dementia Friends help people living with dementia in lots of ways, both big and small. From being more patient in a shop queue, to helping someone find the right bus, every action counts. Dementia Friends Scotland allows you to gain a better understanding of dementia and the things you can do to help people living with dementia be a valued part of their local community.
What is Think Carer Training?
Many individuals see what they do as simply being a partner, parent, child, sibling, or friend, not as “caring.” Because of this, a large number of unpaid carers remain unidentified and unsupported. You may be an unpaid carer, or someone else you know, sadly many unpaid carers only recognise their role after they are already struggling. Increasing awareness and early identification are essential to ensure carers receive appropriate support. Think Carer training will help us identify unpaid carers, understand who they are and the impact (physical, emotional and financial) it can have. It will cover the impact that caring has on a persons health and wellbeing and the importance of offering appropriate support.
The evening will cover both training/awareness sessions with a break between. We would love to see you there.
