Our monthly nature play group is meeting the last Sunday of each month, starting at noon and meeting outside the Beacon. Whilst we started out as a parent and toddler group initially, we have grown into an outdoor group for families with children from birth upwards to primary age.
We have a lovely little area that is a short walk down to Gore Glen where we can do den building, nature arts and crafts, campfire cooking, water play and learning nature facts.
We also hosted our first session at the children’s area at the Beacon Community Garden. This was a great success as the children were able to try out the new mud kitchen there and got to know about the planting that was going on.
We vary where we hold the sessions as getting down to Gore Glen is not always easy for the families with toddlers which is why we trialed a session at the Community garden.
The aim is to be flexible and evolve the group to meet the needs of the families attending. As time progresses it may be that we will alternate where we hold the sessions. We also have a space down by the Birch Woods that has been easily accessible for all and a great space for the children to play.
We are very lucky that we have lots of lovely green spaces around Gorebridge to enjoy the benefits of being outdoors, learning about nature and making great friendships as well.
